Captain Sorensson

With Alfredsson hurt during the playoffs, the Sens really needed another Scandinavian sounding superstar. Does a Swiss-Canadian star on the rise count?

4 Cheers for the Sens

Perhaps if we add Colin and Soren to the cheering squad it will be

enough to cheer those hapless Sens onto victory. Boy, kids sure can

dream.

Pre-game Hype

While the Sens playoff run did not last long, there was no shortage of support from the Canadian Embassy in Havana. Here baby Laura and I show our eager cheer. Baa, baaaa, baaa!

The Tortoises

We never claimed we would finish first. We're just taking it slow and steady and who knows what will happen in the end.

Don't quote me

As an unofficial spokesperson of the Embassy, I figured I would let the Ambassador do the talking with the media this time. However, I'm taking notes. And the next time he's away......

Baby Power

Baby Darius and Laura had a big day at the Marathon of Hope.
They were just hoping there was enough food when they needed it.

Burger Clan

Yup, we were all there, even Darius in his Canadian red stroller. He slept part of the way through the race, but he finished strong.

It's a bet!

The winner of this race gets all the cars of the other. What does the loser get? Gets to hand them over. Alright it's a deal! Let's shake on it!

Pre-Marathon Warmup

Wonder runners Colin and Soren are preparing with their coaches, Craig and Daddy, for the big "Marathon of Hope" (Hope I don't finish last). A beautiful setting, right outside the Capitoleo in downtown Havana.

Wake up Laura!

Come on baby Laura! The race hasn't started yet. We need to get into pole position. Tell your mom to find the starting line.

Terry Fox Run

One of the biggest days on the Cuban calendar is the annual Terry Fox Run. He is probably as famous in Cuba as he is in Canada. There are thousands of simultaneous runs around the island on this big day. There's always a big turnout from the Canadian Embassy as you can see from Maribel, Daddy and I.

Pool time!

Nothing like a refreshing dip in the pool on a hot Havana spring day. There will be many days in the pool, once the real heat of the Havana summer beckons.

Baur BBQ

One of our lovely outdoor meals. The weather in Cuba in late March, early April is spectacular. Hot during the day but cooling down a little at night. You can see that Norbert, Marlies, Jasmine and Carmen are certainly enjoying it. Not only did they enjoy a week in Havana with us, but they had 5 nights in sunny Varadero too.

Canada vs Schweiz

The Swiss family Baur visited us in late March as well. It was the first time that Darius or I had met them. Despite this, it didn't take long to get to know them. What better way than a little competition. Canada vs Switzerland in Air Hockey.

Simone Says

Simone says smile for the camera! You too Marley!

The Rock Machine

March was a busy month with lots of visitors. None more welcome than Roch and his girlfriend from the Rock, Simone. They showed in a run-down non-official taxi from Varadero after having missed the bus. We had a great time, especially looking for the moon.

Caballo

Giddy up Soren! Darius is having a ball as the little jockey. With his combination of strength and size, he could be the world champion jockey. He would need a faster and stronger steed though. Where's Marley?

Twins?

Well, we're not exactly twins but we are wearing the same PJs. Looks like Darius is getting a little more strength. When will he be ready to challenge big brother Soren? Given his appetite, it won't be too long.

Get on the Sens Bus

Daddy is showing us the new gift I got. A replica Ottawa Senators team bus. It's time to get on the bus as this team needs all the support it can get before heading to the playoffs.

Prizes

Uncle Hunts and Aunt Annie brought me some fantastic prizes.
Looks like Marley thought there was something for him. Alright, let's find out what I got.

Esplendido!

While the men enjoyed some Cuban culture, I took part by puffing on a Swiss chocolate cigar. The difference is it took me 1 minute to finish my cigar and it took them 1 hour!

Calle Hockey

Or as we Canadians call it, street hockey. This is a typical scene in front of our Canadian house on the streets of Havana. This time, however, it's with the Jiggins brothers and not the Cubans who are avidly learning the game.

Un Metro

While Soren and Darius were off with the ladies checking out the shops of Old Havana, the men were enjoying a yard or 2 of relaxation. The only microbrewery in Cuba brews up some wonderful products. And you can't beat the presentation nor the ambience.

Air Hockey

It's hockey all the time with Uncle Hunts. Goal!!!!!!!!!! We're so good at this game, we had 4 pucks on the go at all times. It takes skills.

XBox Champ

Of course when Daddy, Uncle Hunts
and KahJee get together, you know there is going to be an Xbox tournament. Over the course of the week, there were 2 big ones. The International Ice Hockey tournament was won by Slovakia who beat Canada in the final. The FIFA World Cup was won by Mexico who beat the Czech Republic in the final. I've still got some work to do but soon enough I'll be beating Darius.

TV/Patio Dinner

To each his own. I decided that after a long day, I would not enjoy my dinner in the great Havana outdoors like everyone else. Sometimes you just need to wind down in front of the tv and shut out the world. Everyone else enjoyed the famous Jiggins Spaghetti out on the terrace.

Tough Walk

Even though I didn't do too much of the walking, I was sure exhausted. Just tired enough to sleep through the adults' dinner, which I hear was pretty good.

Where's our table?

While waiting for our dinner table to be ready, we found many ways to entertain ourselves. Darius was out walking with Mommy and Aunt Annie. While Uncle KJ perused the menu, I kept the others entertained with some dance steps and monster chasing.

Comfy Spot

With everybody still eating at the table, I needed a bit

of a nap. This night, there wasn't a better place than the Godfather's lap.

Ching, ching!

That's some nice looking red vino. It matches very well with Aunt Funny's sunburn from the day at the beach.

Big night out

Everyone is all dressed up for a fancy night out at the Italian Restaurant. Everyone is in the shot except Aunt Annie, the photographer. Everyone looks sharp. Uncle Hunts and Kahjee, those are fancy sandals to go with the fancy outfit.

My Treat

Alright, who wants a drink? I'm treating.
