... now you don't. Unfortunately, it happened so fast that the camera did not catch the jump in the air. You didn't catch much of me in the water either as it was freezing.
In the same Jarabacoa region, we hiked up to this beautiful alpine waterfall, where the water reminded you of Canada. Cold, crisp and clean. No wonder only Daddy braved the temperature.
We're a couple of years away yet before we rafting in the rapids, but it was cool to be dining above them. Since rainy season hadn't begun, it didn't look too treacherous.
One thing for sure is that we were not near the ocean. Being 1500m high in the mountains, meant cooler temps and definitely cooler water. Didn't stop us from jumping in though.
It was time to head for the hills and this was a dream weekend. We rented a house, located right on a mountain river and were even able to take Marley on his first road trip. This little spot is the Jarabacoa river club, built right along the banks of the river.
What does that mean? Slow service and menu items not available, usually. But, actually, we had a fabulous dinner the night before with Thierry and his family and the kids played on the beach until the wee hours. That explains why we're so tired today.
Captain Soren, 1st Mate Darius and crew member Osito all stand at attention in anticipation of the pirate ship's docking in the Bayahibe harbour! Arrrghh! Pity our cutlasses be at home.
I've found a nice little protected area around which I can build my fortification. Although, on 2nd thought, maybe I should have found somewhere in the shade and out of this blazing sun.
A new adventure as we went all the way out past La Romana to a quaint little town called Bayahibe. We stayed at a basic little motel in town and walked to the beach. It was relatively quiet with some locals but away from the all inclusive crowd.
While the young lads were wasting their time on silly sports, Bona and I were busy building shelter on the beach. Who would last on in a game of survivor?
The beaches of Juan Dolio offer a great setting for this new sport to take off. Grandma and Opa were able to take in the action watching me try and achieve new rallying records with my young neighbour.
Once you have the young kids trying out a sport, it's just a matter of time before it takes off. Little Ayana sure loves it. Mind you, our rallies are a little shorter.
A new sport that just hasn't caught on yet. It consists of bouncing a ball back and forth using a mini, circular trampoline glove. Just wait, it will be all the rage on the beaches of Canada. For 2 months of the year, anyways.
Sometimes there were long gaps between planes so we simply invented our own fun. Brother Darius missed it all as he fell asleep upon arrival at the show and woke up after we left.
Do you see the correlation? Eating carrots is good for your eyes. You need to have really good eyes to be a pilot. So if you want to fly these planes like this crazy pilots you need carrots like a rabbit. These 2 young lads seem to get it.
An international air show came to town so seemed like a great occasion to brave the crowds and and heat and spend some time on the Malecon. This guy was all smoke and twirls. Talk about brave!
Opa, never a fan of window shopping, decided to head back to the ship early and wait for the shoppers to come back. Besides, he just preferred to be on the ship.
We could have spent more than the 6 hours we were allotted on lovely St. Maarten. We loved it so much we tried to fly back on a separate holiday, but alas, flying between Caribbean islands is more difficult than it would appear.
After visiting all of the typical island animals and birds, it was time enter our own jungle. Daddy and Opa didn't mind us taking our time as it meant less time in the shops of St. Maarten.
