Did I miss something?

What do you mean Daddy jumped off a cliff? Hmm! Well, let me tell you about this story I'm reading about. It all begins with this superhero...

Good focus

Taking a lens cap, I was merely trying to emulate the real photographer. Could I have a future in this?

Now you see me...

... now you don't. Unfortunately, it happened so fast that the camera did not catch the jump in the air. You didn't catch much of me in the water either as it was freezing.

Cliff jumping

It may not be Acapulco or the

Havana Malecon, but Daddy was
quick to scale these new heights.

Salto

In the same Jarabacoa region, we hiked up to this beautiful alpine waterfall, where the water reminded you of Canada. Cold, crisp and clean. No wonder only Daddy braved the temperature.

Story Time

There's nothing wrong with a little quiet time with a good story surrounded by Mother Nature. Great comics, thanks Glamma!

White Water Rafting

We're a couple of years away yet before we rafting in the rapids, but it was cool to be dining above them. Since rainy season hadn't begun, it didn't look too treacherous.

River Club

The Vistas at this place were amazing especially since it was only 200 pesos to get in. About 5 clams!

Cooling off

One thing for sure is that we were not near the ocean. Being 1500m high in the mountains, meant cooler temps and definitely cooler water. Didn't stop us from jumping in though.

Cross that Bridge

Life is full of challenges and you simply have to cross each bridge when you come to them. Well, we certainly did in this case.

The Bridge

This was a suspenseful bridge as we were pretty high and the river didn't look so deep. Just keep smiling Daddy.

Jarabacoa

It was time to head for the hills and this was a dream weekend. We rented a house, located right on a mountain river and were even able to take Marley on his first road trip. This little spot is the Jarabacoa river club, built right along the banks of the river.

Lunch a la Cubana

What does that mean? Slow service and menu items not available, usually. But, actually, we had a fabulous dinner the night before with Thierry and his family and the kids played on the beach until the wee hours. That explains why we're so tired today.

3 Mateys!

Captain Soren, 1st Mate Darius and
crew member Osito all stand at attention in anticipation of the pirate ship's docking in the Bayahibe harbour! Arrrghh! Pity our cutlasses be at home.

Ahoy Mateys!

Shiver me mangu, I see a pirate ship in the harbour. Prepare for an attack!

Fort

I've found a nice little protected area around which I can build my fortification. Although, on 2nd thought, maybe I should have found somewhere in the shade and out of this blazing sun.

Chica

Along came a little Dominican girl with a swagger and a waggle of the hip. Darius was a little shellshocked and not sure how to respond.

Bayahibe

A new adventure as we went all the way out past La Romana to a quaint little town called Bayahibe. We stayed at a basic little motel in town and walked to the beach. It was relatively quiet with some locals but away from the all inclusive crowd.

And we ate at a Cuban restaurant.

Survivor

While the young lads were wasting their time on silly sports, Bona and I were busy building shelter on the beach. Who would last on in a game of survivor?

Beach pose

Mommy thinks I might grow up to be a surfer. Why does she think that? Could that be so bad?

Progress

Once we realized that we didn't hit the ball too far and that we should stand closer together, it started to click. Check out the form.

Perfect Setting

The beaches of Juan Dolio offer a great setting for this new sport to take off. Grandma and Opa were able to take in the action watching me try and achieve new rallying records with my young neighbour.

Momentum growing

Once you have the young kids trying out a sport, it's just a matter of time before it takes off. Little Ayana sure loves it. Mind you, our rallies are a little shorter.

Trampoline Ball

A new sport that just hasn't caught on yet. It consists of bouncing a ball back and forth using a mini, circular trampoline glove. Just wait, it will be all the rage on the beaches of Canada. For 2 months of the year, anyways.

Too many breaks

Sometimes there were long gaps between planes so we simply invented our own fun. Brother Darius missed it all as he fell asleep upon arrival at the show and woke up after we left.

Carrots and Planes

Do you see the correlation? Eating carrots is good for your eyes. You need to have really good eyes to be a pilot. So if you want to fly these planes like this crazy pilots you need carrots like a rabbit. These 2 young lads seem to get it.

Hail Cesar

Of course, we all know Franco is Soren's best friend. But here's a nice shot of Franco and his Dad, Cesar, taking in air show with us.

Three's Company

How much practice does this take, do you think?

This one received some good crowd support.

Air Show

An international air show came to town so seemed like a great occasion to brave the crowds and and heat and spend some time on the Malecon. This guy was all smoke and twirls. Talk about brave!

Setting sail

While more time would have been accepted, the timing of our departure from this beautiful island allowed for some stunning departure shots.

Window Waiting

Opa, never a fan of window shopping, decided to head back to the ship early and wait for the shoppers to come back. Besides, he just preferred to be on the ship.

BB Bar

We never got to meet the owner of this fine looking establishment, but had we had time, it would have been interesting to check it out.

The Boulevard

We could have spent more than the 6 hours we were allotted on lovely St. Maarten. We loved it so much we tried to fly back on a separate holiday, but alas, flying between Caribbean islands is more difficult than it would appear.

Cawh! Cawh!

We might have missed out on the heavy shopping, but tropical birds are far more interesting than jewelry and clothes.

Zookeeper

While Opa doesn't get paid as one, he certainly had his hands full acting as one during this trip to the St. Maarten zoo.

Jungle time

After visiting all of the typical island animals and birds, it was time enter our own jungle. Daddy and Opa didn't mind us taking our time as it meant less time in the shops of St. Maarten.

Birdfeed

Opa is showing us the right way to feed a bird. Lesson #1 Darius, keep your hands outside of the cage.
