Crash Landing?

Darius has emerged as the superskilled, technical and in-control skier, while Soren, as evidenced here, values speed at all costs.  Speed first, stopping 2nd.  Fortunately, he has timed things to perfection and can bring himself to a perfect glide right into the poma lift.  It didn't take long!

By a Blade

It looks like Soren has taken a slight lead by cutting inside and carving real low.  He seems to already have the edge and feel for speed.  But Darius, what form!

Parallel Slalom

Looks like Darius has taken the early lead, but Soren has his eye on the prize and might be sacrificing control to get the edge on his little bro.  Daddy follows closely behind shouting instructions, while Opa surveys from afar, admiring the quick studies.

Racers, on your blocks!

Who do you think is the daring racer, cutting all corners, keeping his body aerodynamic in the quest for speed?
Who do you think is the technical turner, always in control while edging in style?
Stay tuned as the answer might not be obvious.

Staying in the Groove

Look Mom!  2 hands.  You need to keep 2 hands on the bar, otherwise it's pretty easy to fall.  Then it's difficult to get up.  Fortunately, the operators are our friends and they don't let anyone crash into us when we fall.

Lone Rider

Where is Soren in all of this?  Is he over on the big hill with Daddy?  I've got to keep that as motivation.  Keep working hard and practising my turns so that Daddy will take me on the big hil.

Next in line

Jean-Pierre knows the drill by now.  We're up slowly on the poma, then we cruise down the hill in style and then we time our finish to allow just enough momentum to take us right to the line to gear up for another run.

Follow the Leader

We learned enough from our lessons to know how to lead the formation.  Hey Opa!  This is how we do it!  Follow me and keep your arms out wide.

Pose for Mommy

Not quite a racer's pose, but it sure looks like I'm enjoying myself, doesn't it?  What a great way to spend a winter's day.

Who Needs a Teacher?

It's really about getting the feel for gravity.  On a hill, we tend to go down.

Now that I've got the basics, it's all about practising my pizza turns.  Then soon, I'll be making french fry turns.

Follow the leader

Here we are in the New Year and we're up at the White House again, practising our skiing.  After one week of lessons, it's now Daddy's turn to teach us.  Let's see what you've got.

Snowboots

This is a hard thing to master.  When there's fresh or wet snow, it tends to stick to the bottom of your ski boots, which causes problems to get your skis on.  Not so easy for a 4 year to fix.  My balance is just not there yet.

Pomas away!

Check me out!  Here I go for the first time on my own, without Daddy or the instructor.  Two hands, looking straight ahead, standing up and not leaning back.  I think I've got it.

Pizza or French Fries

What the ski instructor told us what that we need start with a pizza and then when we're ready we can have french fries.  No wonder why Mommy is always asking why we're so hungry coming in after skiing.

Pizza, pizza

No, it's not lunch time.  But one of the first things we learn is how to do a pizza or as they used to say "the snowplough".  It's that v-shape with our skis that allows to slow down and even stop.  Look at us go.  Grandma sure looks proud.

Heading on up...

Hey, look!  It's Abigail and she's got a handle of the situation.  She's learned that before you go down, you have to go up.
